Chicago Magazine March 2011: Sound Opinions!

My love of music started early.  At 5 years old I purchased Pat Benatar’s Hit Me With Your Best Shot on 45, which I proudly played on my Fisher Price record player.  In high school, this love continued when my obsessive cassette tape purchases landed me a job at Musicland, where I was paid to talk to cute boys about music!  During my early years in Chicago, it was not uncommon for Miss Virginia Jones and I to attend 5 live shows in a week.  Today, the love affair continues, at the studio, at home, in the car…

You can imagine how excited I was to get the phone call from Chicago Mag asking if I’d like to photograph some of the best known music lovers, Greg Kot and Jim DeRogatis!!!

When I first started listening to Sound Opinions on the radio, I was never able to figure out exactly when it was on, but every time I would stumble upon it I would be very excited!  Lucky for me, podcasts archived all the way back to 2005 are available online!  Kot and DeRogatis are rockstars in their own right, both have a huge wealth of musical knowledge, are fantastic interviewers and well respected rock critics.

The guys far exceeded my hopes and expectations, quickly adding themselves to the list of awesome people I have photographed!  We chatted about some of my current favs Black Keys, Japandroids, Arcade Fire, and The National. As an added bonus, they turned us onto Janelle Monáe. My only regret is that we couldn’t get our shoot scheduled for the same day as the Isobel Campell & Mark Lanegan visit!-if you have iTunes, click on the link to hear one of my favorite songs recorded live for Sound Opinions just a few weeks ago!

And, of course we couldn’t resist using ourselves as stand ins with this awesome set at our disposal!:)
